Innovation:
Synthetic leather made from PBS
We see PBS material as a potential replacement for, for example, PVC containing plasticizers or polyurethane.
Jury statement
The jury sees a very broad range of applications, from furniture to fashion and leisure to automotive applications.
We see PBS material as a potential replacement for PVC containing plasticizers or polyurethane, for example. In addition to the use of biopolymers in the top layer, the solution also impresses with the replacement of the fossil-based carrier material. In the submitted solution, both the carrier substrate and the synthetic leather are bio-based and coordinated with each other. With this product, a multi-material solution can be converted to a solution from the biopolyester family, which could also enable biodegradability or compostability.
